what is confidence?

Confidence can be hard to define….

In fact, each of us will have a slightly different perspective...

We are all individuals after all!

Read on for my perspective on what confidence is, and what it is not.

Do you agree?

Confidence is:

Confidence is about me, and understanding my value

Confidence is just knowing that I will be OK, that I have all the skills and resources I need to rise up to any challenges - that I set myself or that life sets for me

Confidence is taking actions that align with what's important to me

Confidence is trusting myself

Confidence is doing things for myself and others

Confidence is asking for help when I need it

Confidence is learning new things, growing, and going outside my comfort zone

Confidence is knowing my boundaries, and learning to say "no"

Confidence is not:

Confidence is not about comparison to anyone else

Confidence is not arrogance: arrogance is thinking or behaving like you are better than others

Confidence is never about needing to be right: it is about listening to others and being heard, being prepared to change our views, or compromise, or to agree to disagree if necessary

Confidence is never about making other people feel bad so you can feel better

If I imagine a world where everyone lives with my version of confidence, then life would be so much easier for all of us!

How would you define confidence?

What action could you chose to do, today, to move towards your definition of confidence?
